Glycolic Acid Guide

Glycolic Acid Face Wash

Glycolic acid face wash is just one of many skincare products which are aimed at eliminating dead skin. These products are extremely common, and they come in many different guises. There are many people who swear by their effectiveness, and they can be found in just about every drug store. Nevertheless, they have provoked arguments in some quarters. Some governments have decided that any skincare product with a concentration of glycolic acid greater than 10% is unsafe for use. Although this has not become part of law, many manufacturers still accept it as a guideline, because they are frightened of the possibility of lawsuits.

Glycolic acid is also used in industrial applications. It is used for the removal of rust and grease from mechanical equipment. Although the concentration used in these applications is obviously much higher than the concentration used in a typical skincare product, it does illustrate that glycolic acid can be a highly corrosive substance. Some of the more extreme chemical peels have a concentration which is not far removed from those used in industry. These chemical peels should only really be used by a trained professional, or at least under the supervision of a trained professional.

Glycolic acid face wash is firmly entrenched at the other end of the spectrum. With a low concentration, it is completely safe for anyone to use. Having said this, anyone with a serious underlying skin condition should still consult their doctor before beginning any skin treatment program. Although the wash itself is completely safe, you can never be sure how a diseased skin will react to other chemicals contained in the formula. To be honest, a mild face wash solution with a low concentration of active ingredient is unlikely to be suitable for any advanced condition.

Use of this type of face wash is really suitable for people who just have a mild condition of dried and flaky skin. This form of mild lotion will need to be applied regularly over several weeks as part of a long-term plan for improving the condition. You should apply the lotion to the affected area, and then either rub it into the body, or allow it to be absorbed into the body. How much rubbing you are prepared to do will depend on whether your skin is sore to touch. All that matters is that the lotion is absorbed into the body.

Once the face wash has been fully absorbed, the active ingredient will begin to work on the dead, flaky skin. By binding with the unwanted dead skin, the face wash creates the conditions for its easy removal. The face wash lotion needs to be given some time for this binding to occur. Once this has happened, you are then free to use water to wash the solution away. It is also possible to use other alpha hydroxy products to moisturize the skin. Using such a mild solution should not lead to any side effects, but the treatment will need to be maintained over several weeks to be effective. Anyone wishing for a steady, consistent improvement in the overall appearance of their skin should consider using a glycolic acid face wash.
